  • Q: How long does a visit take?

    Most people find it takes at least two hours to get around all our attractions. Go at your own pace and spend as long as you like enjoying the illusions.

  • Q: Is there a discount for the bus tours?

    Yes – we’ve partnered up with Edinburgh Bus Tours to offer a special price for passengers. Show your bus ticket when you arrive to claim your discount. 

  • Q: Do you accept euros, dollars or other currencies?

    No, we accept sterling. We also accept all major credit and debit cards.

  • Q: Do you accept card payment?

    Yes, we accept all major credit and debit cards.

  • Q: Do you have a café?

    We don’t have an on-site café, but you can grab a snack in our gift shop any time. Your ticket also gets you money off at several nearby cafes and restaurants. Your Camera Obscura ticket is valid all day, so get your hand stamped when you leave and come back whenever you’re ready. 

  • Q: Can I pre-book a show?

    No, show times are allocated when you buy your tickets at reception. Please be aware that shows only run when there is enough daylight, and have limited capacity so if you are visiting
    in winter or at a peak time of year please come along before midday to guarantee entry into the show.

    If you miss the show today – don’t worry, we can give you free entry the following morning so that you can pop back and catch it.


  • Q: Can I book tickets online?

    No, we only sell tickets in person, on the day. This means we can monitor the number of visitors, and guarantee that everyone gets the very best experience.

  • Q: Is there a lift?

    Sorry – no. Our 17th-century building is listed by Historic Environment Scotland. Please contact us if you have any questions about access – we’ll do everything we can to help

  • Q: Can I buy gift vouchers?

    Yes – just give us a call or email us with what you need.

  • Q: How long is the show?

    The show in the Camera Obscura lasts around 15 minutes, the rest of your time will be spent enjoying the rooftop views and World of Illusions. We recommend you give yourself at least two hours in total.

    This is your chance to see the Camera Obscura in action. Your guide will show you the whole city from our rooftop tower and entertain you with tales from Edinburgh’s fascinating past.

    We’ve made sure there’s lots on offer for people with all kinds of disabilities. For specific information about an individual condition, see our accessibility page or give us a call – we’re happy to provide as much information as you need.

    Yes! Our attractions are ideal for all ages, from tiny babies to hard-to-impress teenagers.

  • Q: What ages are the attractions suitable for?

    All ages. From babies to grandparents, everyone loves Camera Obscura. There’s something for everyone, even those that are hard to impress. The proof? Parents of teenagers often tell us we were the highlight of their family’s Edinburgh trip.

  • Q: Can I store my luggage during my visit?

    Yes! We have a storage area where you can leave bulky items like luggage or shopping bags. Although we’ll take good care of your luggage, we can’t accept liability for any loss, theft or damage to it. Ask when you buy your tickets.

  • Q: What’s the best time to visit?

    First thing in the morning – no question. It’s the best way to start your day in Edinburgh, taking in the incredible city views from our rooftop tower. This is also when we’re quietest, so you’ll get more time and space to explore.
